Bambooka is an innovative new brand of natural bamboo sunglasses, hand-made in a completely sustainable way. Bamboo is one of the lightest, yet strongest materials available, resulting in the most comfortable, natural fit imaginable. Our bamboo glasses are fitted with a quality CR39 lens, offering full UV protection. Currently 3 designs are available, some of which in 2 sizes, and some of which in two colours, light, natural bamboo colour and dark brown.
Bambookas are exclusively distributed by Eye Wear Africa Ltd, a not-for-profit social enterprise, entirely run by volunteers. The aim of Eye Wear Africa is to raise funds in support of its sister charity PEPE, which does important work in the poverty stricken east cape region of South Africa. PEPE is a charity that seeks to help people become fully independent and self-sustainable, by providing training and supporting a food security project in Amasame and a school in Sisonke. For more information, please go to the pepe website.
By buying handmade bamboo sunglasses, you will financially support Pepe to also set up and manage a bamboo plantation in Amasame. This species of 'giant bamboo' will have incredible benefits for the local community, for fences, sewers, gutters, construction material and producing natural fuel. The bamboo may also be the starting point for some future small local enterprises, using the bamboo as source material for making any of its many possible applications: musical instruments, furniture, flooring materials, bicycles, and possibly future Bambooka sunglasses!
